OHIO announces Science Café schedule for spring semester 2024

The spring semester 2024 lineup for Ohio University’s popular  Science Café events kicks off with  Katherine Jellison , Ph.D., discussing "Does a picture really paint a thousand words?” on Wednesday, February 7, at 5 p.m., at the Front Room Coffeehouse in Baker University Center. Each event will also be streamed live via  YouTube

Dr. Jellison will discuss employing photographs in historical research, using images from the Farm Security Administration (FSA) collection at the Library of Congress to explore the nature of American motherhood during the Great Depression.

Katherine Jellisonis a professor of history and director of the Central Region Humanities Center at Ohio University. She uses photographic sources extensively in her research, including in her most recent book (with Steven D. Reschly), Amish Women and the Great Depression (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2023).

Free coffee coupons will be provided for the first 50 people who arrive at each event in person.

  • Wednesday, April 3 at 5 p.m. — Dr. Sarah Wyatt, Environmental and Plant Biology
