October 2024 is the 21st anniversary of Cybersecurity Awareness Month.
Beginning in 2004, the President of the United States and Congress declared the month of October Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a month dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of cybersecurity.
The evergreen theme of all Cybersecurity awareness months from 2023 forward will be “Secure Our World.” This theme, in collaboration with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) cybersecurity awareness program, focuses on daily habits that users can implement to reduce risks to online activities and when interacting with connected devices.
Over the course of the month of October, OHIO’s Information Security Office will explore CISA’s Four Easy Ways to Stay Safe Online and expand on this guidance with a series of articles with relevant information for all OHIO community members.
In addition to these articles, the Information Security Office encourages all OHIO community members to take part in a friendly competition with Miami University to prove that Bobcats are cyber smart by completing a short 5 question survey about cybersecurity . All participants will be entered to win a prize from the Information Security Office.
The competition is currently underway and concludes at noon on Nov. 1. You can visit the CyberMania Scoreboard to check in on the score throughout the competition.
