Overview
Join us in London to explore the universal National Health Service (NHS) and see how it stacks up against the privatized U.S. system. Along the way, you’ll dive into the social, environmental, and political forces that shape how people receive care—and why it matters.
Whether you’re passionate about health equity, curious about policy, or just want to see how another country does it, this experience is your chance to think critically, reflect collaboratively, and deepen your understanding of public health around the world..
Program Highlights
- Begin your journey with a panoramic tour of the city's iconic landmarks.
- Delve into the rich collections at the Wellcome Museum, British Museum, and the fascinating Old Operating Theatre.
- Learn about London's plague history and the public health evolution on captivating walking tours.
- Attend presentations by local healthcare professionals and experts, and visit facilities such as world-renowned Cleveland Clinic.
Good to Know
- Physical Activity:The program will require moderate to extensive walking and standing to participate in guided city tours, museum visits, and professional meetings.
- Technology Needs:Participants will need to have access to a laptop or tablet with typing and Internet access capabilities during the program.

Living Arrangements
Accommodation will be provided with 2-3 students sharing a room/bathroom.
Program Dates
March 7-15, 2026
Students will need to book flights to depart the US on March 6th to ensure arrival to the UK on March 7th, 2026.
Academics
- Participating students will take one of the following two courses:
- HLTH 4912 Social and Public Health Field Experience (3 credit hours)
- Structured field experience that provides students with hands-on learning related to public health and healthcare systems.
- Coursework will be completed before, during and after travel.
- Elective course for Health Services Administration, Community and Public Health majors and minors
- EH 4920 Environmental Health Practicum (3 credit hours)
- Supervised learning experience designed to provide environmental health students with practical opportunities that enhance and complement their core classes.
- Coursework will be completed before, during and after travel.
- Core course for Environmental Health majors, elective course for Environmental Health minors
- HLTH 4912 Social and Public Health Field Experience (3 credit hours)
Cost
The following information is intended to help participants understand the estimated costsassociated with the program. For additional information regarding program costs, please refer to Understanding Program Costs for Ohio-Credit Programs .
As of May 22, 2025, the total estimated cost for this Spring Break 2026 program is expected to be:
- Undergraduate Estimate:$5,049 + 3 Credits of Spring Athens-Campus Tuition/Fees*
*Tuition rates are based on participant's Tuition Guarantee or Graduate Program of Study (refer to Bursars for more information).
The credit hours offered for a Spring Break program are part of the spring semester course load . Participants will not incur additional tuition costs for the spring semester if they are taking 12-20 (Undergraduate) or 9-18 (Graduate) credits including the credit hours associated with this program. Students taking less or more than a full course load will see their tuition adjusted accordingly.
SPRING 2025 Tuition & Fees*:Based on individual Tuition Guarantee or Graduate Program of Study (refer to Bursars for more information)
These credit hours are part of the spring semester course load. Non-program-related entertainment, souvenirs, and additional travel are not included in the cost estimate and should be budgeted separately.

Eligibility
This program is open to OHIO undergraduate students in good academic standing, who meet the following requirements:
- Pre-requisite: successful completion of HLTH 2000 Introduction to Public Health,
- Minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
- Priority will be given to majors and minors in Health Services Administration, Community and Public Health, Environmental Health
Undergraduate students from related majors and minors who meet the pre-requisites are encouraged to apply and will be considered, space permitting.
This program is not open to Graduate Students or Guest/Non-OHIO students from other institutions.
Students who will be on probation at any point during the program for a conduct offense that took place less than a calendar year from the program start date may not study abroad. Read the entire conduct policy
Participants must have at least a high school diploma or the equivalent (e.g. GED) by the start date of the program to be considered for eligibility. Students enrolled in College Credit Plus (CC+) are not eligible for study away programs.
Application Requirements
All students must submit:
- A current/updated DARS
- Personal Statement: Participants will need to address how participating in this program will likely benefit you professionally and personally. What do you hope to gain from this experience?
Applications will be reviewed and nominated on a rolling basis. Students are encouraged to apply early for better chances of admission.
Entry and Exit Requirements
U.S. citizens are required to have a valid U.S. passport when traveling outside of the United States. If you plan to study or travel abroad in the next year, apply for your passport now. Some countries also require a visa to legally enter or reside in the country.
U.S. citizens will not need a visa to enter the country for the length of this program. Please note that visa requirements may vary if you plan to stay in the country longer than the program dates or travel to other countries during or after the program. It is important you familiarize yourself with these recommendations and requirements prior to applying to this program.
- The United Kingdom requires many travelers, including U.S. citizens to acquire an electronic travel authorisation (ETA) for entry. This is typically less than $15 USD.
