Digital Accessibility Guidelines

Ohio University strongly supports our compliance obligations to the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other laws and policies supporting people with disabilities, therefore, all web properties, electronic communications, software, applications, and any other information and communication technology covered by the Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability; Accessibility of Web Information and Services of State and Local Government Entities ruling must be compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level of conformance.

Therefore, Ohio University adopts the most recent ADA requirements for information and communication technology which is WCAG 2.1 AA.

WCAG 2.1 AA

There are 4 principles and 50 testable success criteria in the WCAG standard at the 2.1 AA level. WCAG was written by developers for developers, and it is a worldwide legal standard, so it is written for precision over comprehension. Some of the less technical success criteria that support accessible content creation have been clarified and can be found on the Universal Techniques webpage. There is also a resource called WCAG in Plain English that can help with understanding the standard.

We recognize that digital accessibility is an ongoing process, and we strive to ensure that content provided both directly by the University, and by the University’s third-party vendors, meet these criteria as we are committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive digital environment for everyone.
