Academic Advising

Graduate students have 2 resources for their advising needs: an advisor who is a faculty member in your program and an OHIO Online Student Support Specialist.

  • Faculty Advisors help with the following:
    • Course-Specific and Program-Specific Questions
  • OHIO Online Student Support Specialists help with the following:
    • Understanding Course Search and Registration
    • Understanding University policies and procedures 
    • Dropping courses or withdrawing from the semester
    • Degree planning
    • Planning for graduation
    • Motivation and Support

  • Accessibility Services


    It is the mission of Student Accessibility Services to ensure equal opportunity, and access for members of the Ohio University Community. Appropriate accommodations are determined through the individual intake appointment by reviewing documentation and a discussion with the student.

  • Counseling and Psychological Services


    Counseling and Psychological Services provides resources to help you handle the stress that comes with finding the work/life/school balance. You can talk to a 24/7 Crisis Intervention Service if you need to speak with a counselor immediately. Please call your local police department or go to your local emergency room if you need immediate in-person assistance.

  • Learning Management Systems


    OHIO Online offers two robust learning management systems to facilitate your academic journey. New students will have access to Blackboard and/or Canvas two weeks prior to the start of their first course(s).

  • Libraries


    Through Ohio University Libraries , online students can access e-books, printed books, research guides, and more.  Contact library staff by phone, email, or instant message, or reach out to your academic program's  subject librarian  for help finding materials or other library research questions. For more materials specific to online students, see Remote Library Services .

  • Ombudsperson


    The Office of the Ombudsperson is a confidential service open to all students, employees, alumni, parents, and community members at Ohio University. The overarching mission of the Office of the Ombudsperson is twofold: to ensure that every member of the University community receives equitable and fair treatment and due process; and to support and facilitate a positive working and learning environment.

  • Success Coaching


    OHIO Online’s student support specialists work with fully online students to ensure that students have the resources to be successful during their time at OHIO. They can provide information regarding study skills, time management, organization, test-taking strategies and more. Student support specialists also work with students on academic probation to help them return to good standing at the university. If you are not sure who to contact about something, your student support specialist is a good first step. Graduate students will be assigned a student support specialist at the beginning of the program who will serve as their success coach.

  • Technology Support


    The Office of Information Technology has a service desk that is available to assist you with Blackboard , Canvas, antivirus software, email, and your OHIO ID and PID. The university also provides a variety of free software to students, including Adobe and Microsoft Office 365.

  • Tutoring and Writing Support


    OHIO Online students have access to free online tutoring and writing support that is available 24/7, as well as through the Academic Achievement Center.

  • Veterans and Military Student Services Center


    The purpose of Ohio University’s Veterans and Military Student Services Center is to provide, facilitate, and coordinate programs and services (including educational benefits) to help you make a successful transition to the Ohio University community and support you through your academic career.
