Hello,

I'm reviewing a permit for a sediment placement project in order to elevate eroding saltmarsh. Curious if folks know of existing research, published or anecdotal, that illustrates the max depth of sediment that terrapins (hatchlings, juvenile, and adult) may be able to dig out from under?

Roosenburg (1994) indicates that the bottom of nests are usually 10.5 to 24cm deep with a mean of 16.5 cm, so assuming that most hatchlings can dig themselves out of ~24 cm of sand max.

But curious if there are any other folks are thinking about sediment placement project effects on terrapins and if there are any examples or guidelines folks have.
