Christopher Fisher , professor of piano and co-chair of the Keyboard Division, was honored by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) as an MTNA Foundation Fellow during the organization’s national conference, March 15–19, in Minneapolis. Fisher also received the Ohio University School of Music Distinguished Teaching Award.
The College of Arts and Sciences
Neil W. Bernstein , professor in the Department of Classics and Religious Studies , will publish “Poppaea Sabina: The Life and Afterlife of a Roman Empress” on June 6. From the publisher: “As the ancient sources tell it, Poppaea pushed the young emperor Nero to murder his mother, execute his wife Octavia, marry her and make her his empress--and then, a few years later, kick her to death in a drunken rage.” Bernstein’s book “critically examines these sources to produce the first modern biography of Poppaea Sabina. Her brief marriage to the emperor Nero occasioned political, religious, and social innovation.”
Assistant Professor Wenyang Gao , Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry , published an article in Journal of the American Chemical Society (JACS), one of the most prestigious journals in the chemistry, with cover art recommended as a supplementary cover. The work was also highlighted by Nature Reviews Materials.
Alexander Govorov , Distinguished Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and the Nanoscale Quantum Phenomena Institute (NQPI), was selected as a member of the European Academy of Sciences (EURASC). The EURASC is “a non-profit non-governmental, independent organization of the most distinguished scholars and engineers performing forefront research and the development of advanced technologies, united by a commitment to promoting science and technology and their essential roles in fostering social and economic development.”
Saw Wai Hla , professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy and director of the Nanoscale Quantum Phenomena Institute (NQPI), received a commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives for receiving the 2024 Feynman Prize in nanotechnology.
Professor Molly Morris , Department of Biological Sciences , recently collaborated with faculty from Stanford University and other international scientists on an article published in the journal Nature about how species can genetically hybridize to overcome reproductive barriers as a means to adapt to changing environmental conditions. This project involved data collected by many OHIO undergraduate and graduate students, international and national collaborations, international travel, experiential opportunities for students, and publication in a prominent journal in the field
Distinguished Professor in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology Sarah Wyatt ’s telomere project launched to the International Space Station on April 21. Wyatt attended the launch at Cape Canaveral .
Wyatt was also invited to give a keynote address titled “Plant and gravity: Omics from Earth to ISS” at the American Society of Plant Biologists - Southern Section meeting in Raleigh, NC.

- Gregory Foley , Morton Professor of Mathematics Education, co-authored an article titled " Instructional Decision Making in a Gateway Quantitative Reasoning Course ," with PCOE alumnus Dr. Deependra Budhathoki, in the journal Numeracy.
- Professor Dianne Güt-Zippert recently served as the keynote speaker for Sam Houston State University's fifth-annual Mentoring Event. Her online session for education faculty was titled, "Appreciative Mentoring: Strengthening Community and Thriving in Higher Education," and resulted in engaging conversations about how to implement an appreciative approach to their faculty mentoring.
- Dwan Robinson , associate professor in the Department of Educational Studies , presented "Imposterism Interrogated: Educational Interventions Designed to Bolster Student Persistence, Success, and a Sense of Belonging" at OHIO’s Spotlight on Learning conference.

- Ebenezer Agorsorreceived Learning Center Leadership Certification Level 1 from the International College Learning Center Association (ICLCA).
- Raghad Al-khazraji presented “De-mystifying the Publication Process for New and Aspiring Authors: A Journal of College and Character Spotlight” with Laura Harrison and Pete Mather at the NASPA annual conference.
- HyunJoo Moon recently published “Teaching and Learning Languages with ChatGPT: Challenges and Opportunities in Multilingual Classrooms in Higher Education,” co-authored with Yesung Chung and Dr. Ada Ward-Randolph.
- Samba Bah presented “University Students' Perspectives and Perceptions on Gambia Government Scholarship Allocation and Management” at the Comparative & International Education Society Annual Conference.

The Scripps College of Communication
Matthew deTar , associate professor in the School of Communication Studies , published an article in the Conversation titled “ Cory Booker’s long speech offers a strategy for Trump opponents in a fragmented media landscape.” Drawing on research deTar conducted with co-author Erik Johnson from Stetson University, the article explores the history and patterns of long speeches and the unique role they can play in disrupting media narratives.
Eve Ng , associate professor and graduate director in the School of Media Arts and Studies , was a guest on the "Solidarity beyond Diversity" episode of the Beyond Media Diversity podcast miniseries and at the associated symposium. Beyond Media Diversity is a series of four episodes from the Media Futures Hub which takes a critical look at diversity debates in the media, examining how these are limiting (and limited), what decolonial and anti-colonial alternatives could look like, and how we might divest from the diversity paradigm.
Ngalso published the article "Democratizing Publishing in Communication/Media Studies: A Case Study of Communication, Culture & Critique” in the journal Online Media and Global Communication .
