The Information and Telecommunication Systems minor is designed for students who want to strengthen their understanding of telecommunications networking practice as part of their career preparation. In today’s world, where most communication takes place through electronic and computer-based networks, a solid grasp of networking concepts is essential. Since modern industries rely heavily on data and telephone voice networks, students with this technical background will be better positioned to succeed in a wide range of professional environments.
Admissions Requirements
There are no admission requirements beyond University graduate admission requirements. This degree is open to all Ohio University graduate students on the Athens campus.
To declare an ITS minor, visit the student affairs office of your home college (for example, the Scripps College of Communication or Arts and Sciences) and ask to declare minor code OR5329.

Students in the ITS minor have the opportunity to learn through out extensive hands-on experiences in the McClure School labs.
Curriculum
Through the Information and Telecommunication Systems minor, students learn the fundamentals of modern communication networks, preparing them for careers in tech-driven industries. The minor requires a minimum of 19 credit hours.
Students take two required courses: Introduction to Information and Telecommunication Systems (ITS 2140), which provides an overview of the field and Data Networking (ITS 2300), in which students learn how data is transmitted across complex networks. Students then choose four elective courses from an array of electives that will help them round out their experience.
Career Opportunities
The Information and Telecommunications Systems minor helps students gain a competitive edge for the job market by providing foundational knowledge of today’s digital communication networks — an increasingly valuable skill across industries. It is a popular choice among students majoring in business, media arts, and visual communication, as it complements those fields with practical technical insight.
