Many Ohio University students look to Nationwide Insurance, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, when searching for internships and full-time roles after graduation.
The Fortune 100 company consistently is a top destination for students in many colleges across campus. This spring, students from the Russ College of Engineering and Technology and members of the Career Services team had a unique opportunity to attend “Nationwide Day” at Nationwide’s headquarters in downtown Columbus. Ohio University participated in the experience with students from Bowling Green State University and The Ohio State University.
The students gained insights into Nationwide’s operations, technology professions, cutting-edge innovation and their 2026 internship opportunities. The day combined valuable insights with a lively, fun atmosphere.
The agenda included dynamic presentations, a scavenger hunt, a behind-the-scenes look at the Cyber Security Operations Center, a Day in the Life at Nationwide panel discussion and a fun social media tour.
During their time, the engineering students had the chance to connect with Ohio University alumni, such as Kelton Kline, BBA ’00.
"The partnership between Ohio University and Nationwide continues to deepen through events like Nationwide Day, an opportunity to connect students with Nationwide's culture and associates,” Kline said. “We have consistently been impressed with the talented interns from OU, with many becoming Nationwide associates (including myself!). We look forward to more upcoming campus visits with Ohio University."
The OHIO students said they were grateful to be a part of Nationwide Day and talk with so many talented professionals.
“Nationwide Day was an incredible opportunity to connect with professionals and experience the company's outstanding culture firsthand,” said Andrea Mahr, a junior at Ohio University. “I left feeling inspired by the supportive environment and the exciting career opportunities ahead.”
Mahr also had the opportunity to do an “Instagram Takeover” on Ohio University’s Career Services account. This allowed her to showcase her hands-on experience with followers, including fellow students.
Jill Smalley, assistant director of employer engagement, and Anna-Kaye Rowe, assistant director of career and employer engagement, both from the Ohio University Career Services team, also joined the students on their trip to Nationwide.
“Opportunities like Nationwide Day underscore the vital role employer partnerships play in equipping students for career success beyond the classroom,” Rowe said. “They highlight the value of sustained collaboration with organizations that are deeply committed to developing the next generation of talent.”
