Alternate (Off-Campus) Testing Locations

When a student is unable to test at an  OHIO Testing Services location , they will need to seek approval for an alternate proctor or an alternate testing center. Faculty will still submit the exam through RegisterBlast as outlined above. For more information, including a list of pre-approved testing locations, please reference the student instructions to  schedule an off-campus testing appointment

Instructors

Faculty members are responsible for organizing student testing within their own departments to ensure that all students' needs are efficiently met. OHIO Testing Services is available to assist if a student requires Accessibility Services-approved testing accommodations or online course exam proctoring that cannot be arranged within the department.

Faculty can submit and review a proctored exam request via RegisterBlast. Once submitted, exams will be available for students to begin scheduling immediately. Students will be encouraged to contact you if they need permission to cancel and reschedule their exam time. They may need assistance with making new exam times available.

Note: You must submit student exams in advance, with the following lead times:

  • 24 hoursfor general accommodated exams
  • 72 hoursfor exams requiring a reader or scribe

Follow the steps outlined for Submitting and reviewing a proctored exam (Instructors) . Once submitted, exams will be available for students to begin scheduling immediately. Faculty should be familiar with all policies associated with the testing location.

  • Due to the limited capacity of the Ohio University testing centers,
    • Faculty should submit any proctoring requests for accommodated exams and high-stakes exams for OHIO online courses as soon as possible.
    • Students scheduling prioritized exam proctoring may be required to do so up to 10 days before the exam date.
    • Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are very limited during peak times of mid-term and final exams.
    • Specific date and time restrictions on proctoring requests significantly limit our ability to schedule testing in the testing center. For the most flexibility, faculty are encouraged to provide a date window and no time restrictions to allow students more opportunities to register for their exams.

Accommodated exam proctoring

Accommodation notification

  • Once a student has completed the registration process with Accessibility Services , it is the student’s responsibility to notify their instructors of their accommodation.

Students

We are dedicated to upholding high standards of test security and academic integrity. Our goal is to provide a testing environment that is efficient, fair, and secure for all students. You agree to the Ohio University Athens Testing Center policies by scheduling your session at the Athens Testing Center.

Note: You must schedule your exam in advance, with the following lead times:

  • 72 hoursfor exams requiring a reader or scribe

Contact your instructor if you need permission to reschedule or cancel a test to ensure you can schedule a new test time.

Using approved testing accommodations

Accommodated proctoring is a service provided for Ohio University students with testing accommodations approved through Accessibility Services .

  • Students must submit a Semester Request before speaking with a professor.
  • To use approved testing accommodations, you must provide a  Semester Accommodation Letter  to your instructor.
  • You will discuss with your instructor a plan for how you will receive your testing accommodations throughout the semester.
  • Your instructor may request the assistance of OHIO Testing Services to proctor your course exam. 
  • Student accommodations are updated in the RegisterBlast system throughout the semester. 
  • You will identify which of your approved testing accommodations you want to use for each appointment.
  • Please contact OHIO Testing Services at  testingservices@ohio.edu  if your accommodations are not listed.
  • Testing accommodations must be coordinated in advance.

Schedule an on-campus testing appointment

If your instructor directs you to schedule your exam through OHIO Testing Services, and you are able to test at an OHIO Testing Services location , you will schedule your testing session through RegisterBlast portal associated with the campus location.

Follow the steps below to request on-campus exam proctoring at the Ohio University Athens Testing Center.To schedule your testing session on another OHIO campus, use the schedule link listed for the requested  OHIO Testing Services location .

  • Step 1:Schedule each exam no later than 24 hours before the exam date using the Athens campus RegisterBlast exam schedule portal . Once scheduled, you will receive a confirmation email for the exam scheduled through OHIO Testing Services.
    • Due to the limited capacity of the testing center,
      • If you request that a reader or scribe be available for your proctored exam, you must schedule your exam at least 72 hours before the exam date.
      • Appointments are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis and are very limited during peak times of mid-term and final exams.
  • Step 2:Review the Ohio University Athens Testing Center policies .
  • Step 3:Proctoring at the Ohio University Athens Testing Center is located at 42 West Union Street (Bromley Hall, West Union Street entrance).

Schedule an off-campus testing appointment

If your instructor directs you to schedule your exam through OHIO Testing Services, and you are unable to test at an OHIO Testing Services location , you will need to seek approval for an alternate proctor or an alternate testing center.

Follow the steps below to request off-campus exam proctoring. To schedule your testing session at an OHIO campus, use the schedule link listed for the requested  OHIO Testing Services location .

  • Step 1:Contact the off-campus site where you would like to test. You should confirm the location's requirements, pay any fees, and ensure that the appointment is scheduled.
    • You can access the NCTA Testing website and use the "Find a proctor today!" link for a searchable list of preapproved proctoring locations within a specific geographical area.
  • Step 2:Submit an Off-Campus Proctored Exam Request form for approval at least 10 days before the scheduled exam date.
  • Step 3:Review the additional off-campus proctoring information listed below.

Request an off-campus exam

Additional off-campus proctoring information:

  • For all paper-based exams, OHIO Testing Services will send the exam to the approved testing center via email.  After you complete the paper-based exam, the proctor will email it to your instructor for grading.
  • Off-campus testing may require fees for their services. Students are responsible for all associated fees.
  • To maintain the highest degree of integrity for Ohio University, we reserve the right to decline any person we feel could be a potential conflict of interest as a proctor.
  • Exams must be proctored in an educational facility. No proctoring may take place at a private residence.

The following are allowable proctors for exams:

  • Full-time faculty and administrative staff of a local college or university testing center
  • Full-time faculty and administrative staff at a college or university
  • Full-time teacher, guidance counselor, or administrative staff
  • Hospital Education Department (RN to BSN program only)
  • Embassy education officer or military base/station education officer (active military only)
  • Base commander (active, deployed military only)

The following are not allowable as proctors:

  • School libraries and public libraries
  • Proctor U or other online proctoring platforms, unless specifically allowed and set up by your professor
  • Learning Centers
  • Tutoring Centers
  • Floor or unit educators of a hospital
  • Family members or anyone with a personal relationship to the student or the student's family

Scantron Automated Test Scoring

The Athens campus Testing Services offers automated processing of paper-based Scantron "bubble sheet" exams.

You can utilize automatic processing of Scantron exams by following the process outlined below:

  1. Use one of the following forms to record the responses to your exam/survey. These are the only forms that our scanner supports:
    • Scantron Blue Form #4521
  2. To ensure that each response is attributed to the correct individual, have each student enter their 9 digit PID number (including any leading zeros) on their bubble sheet.
  3. Deliver the completed exam sheets, a bubble sheet answer key, and completed  Test Score Scan Request form  to specify your preferred report format (PDF, CSV, or Text (txt file)) to:

Standardized Testing

Ohio University no longer offers standardized testing services through the Athens Testing Center. Limited proctoring services are available for other assessments.

Ohio University offers the following written tests, outside of the OHIO Testing Services.

  • World Language Assessments: If World Language testing is needed, contact the Patton College of Education at 740-593-4400 .
  • ACT: Standardized test often used for college admissions. The ACT written test is administered in  Morton Hall . Visit the ACT website for more information or to register .
  • GRE: The GRE General and Subject Tests are designed to help graduate school admission committees and fellowship sponsors assess the qualifications of applicants. The tests also provide students with an assessment of their own qualifications. The GRE written tests are administered in  Patton Hall . Visit the GRE website for more information or to register .
  • SAT Reasoning Test: The SAT Reasoning Test is a measure of the critical thinking skills you'll need for academic success in college. The SAT assesses how well you analyze and solve problems — skills you learned in school that you'll need in college. The SAT written test is administered in  Patton Hall . Visit the SAT website for more information or to register .
  • TOEFL: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is an Internet-Based Test (IBT) that measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings. Visit the TOEFL website for more information or to register .

Ohio University Athens Testing Center policies

We are dedicated to upholding high standards of test security and academic integrity. Our goal is to provide a testing environment that is efficient, fair, and secure for all students. By scheduling an exam at the Athens Testing Center, faculty and students agree to the following policies:

Late Arrivals & No-Shows

  • Late Arrival Policy: If students arrive late for the scheduled test, they may not be permitted to test, and no extra time will be provided. Late arrivals may need to reschedule through the instructor.
  • No-Show Policy: If students fail to show up for the scheduled exam without prior notification, they may forfeit the ability to reschedule and must contact their instructor for further instructions.

Rescheduling and Cancellations

  • Rescheduling and Cancellations: If students need to cancel or reschedule their exam, they should do so at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to do so may result in restrictions on future scheduling or require approval from the instructor for rescheduling.

Illness or Emergency

  • Illness or Emergency: If students are ill or have an emergency on the day of their exam, they must contact OHIO Testing Services as soon as possible. Rescheduling due to illness or emergency is at the discretion of the instructor.
  • Inclement Weather and University Closures: The Athens Testing Center follows university policy regarding closures due to inclement weather. If the center closes, our staff will work with the student to reschedule their exam for a later date. Please monitor university announcements for closure updates.

Behavior and Conduct

  • Behavior Policy: To ensure a positive and low-distraction environment, courteous and respectful behavior toward proctors and other students is expected. Disruptive behavior may result in dismissal from the testing center. If students require assistance, they should raise their hand or notify a proctor quietly.
  • Cheating or Misconduct: Any suspected cheating or misconduct will result in immediate termination of the exam and will be reported to the instructor for further action.
  • Cleanliness: Please respect the testing environment. No food, drinks, or gum are allowed. Students are responsible for keeping their testing area clean.

Proctored Testing Environment

  • Test Security: Tests will be administered under standardized conditions, with monitoring via video surveillance and computer software to ensure test integrity.
  • Identification: Student should arrive with  a physical, valid photo ID at least 5 minutes before their scheduled testing time for check-in. Digital copies or photos of IDs will not be accepted.
  • Testing Materials: Only materials approved by the instructor and the proctor are permitted at the testing station. Students need to bring an approved calculator if the test allows it. Only calculators  approved for ACT testing  will be permitted in the testing center. No personal devices are permitted other than approved calculators. Paper-based exams must be available no less than 24 hours before the testing appointment, or the testing appointment may be cancelled.
  • Personal Items: All personal items, including bags, notes, jackets, hats, cell phones, and watches, must be stored in secure lockers provided by the testing center.
  • Test Time Limits: Students are responsible for managing their time during the exam. No extra time will be given beyond what is allocated by the instructor without a previously approved testing accommodation.
  • Restroom Breaks: No restroom breaks are allowed once testing begins without a previously approved testing accommodation. Tests must be completed in one sitting.

Parking

  • Avoid Parking Violations: Metered parking near the testing center has 2-hour limits. Students should allow enough time for check-in and testing, as they may not leave once testing begins.
  • Parking Payment: Have exact change or a credit card ready for parking meters, as change is not available at the testing center. You can also use a parking app if available for convenience.

Accommodations for Disabilities

  • Disability Accommodations: If the student requires special accommodations, please ensure that arrangements have been made with the Office of Accessibility Services prior to the scheduled exam. Testing accommodations must be coordinated in advance.
