OCOM 6002x - Introduction to Primary Care Medicine
This one-week course will introduce students in both curricular tracks to Primary Care Medicine, the Patient Centered Care/Patient Centered Medical Home model, and provide a foundational context for the curriculum. On the first day of the block, students will be introduced to a patient case.This case will unfold over the next 5 days and be the basis for activities that introduce and provide the context for:
- Primary Care Medicine
- The Patient Centered Care model, which includes:
- Clinical Decision Support
- Evidence Based Practice
- Patient Engagement and Empowerment
- Quality Improvement
- Leadership
- Health Policy
- Applied Basic Sciences
This course will also introduce and develop clinical reasoning skills through participation in both standardized patient and osteopathic manipulative medicine labs, and interactive learning experiences.The course incorporates the seven AOA core competencies for medical practice. It culminates in a final project that applies course content to a new patient case.
