ENG 2010 - Introduction to Prose Fiction and Nonfiction
Introduces students to the different forms of fiction and non-fiction prose (novels, short stories, essays, life-writing) as they have developed and changed over time. Students will acquire and deploy a critical vocabulary in learning to read and analyze these texts.
Requisites: ENG 1510 or 1610 or 151A or 152 or 153 or 153A or 153B
Credit Hours: 3

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will become familiar with major authors and texts that contributed to the development of these genres.
- Students will create analytical essays on the form, content, and cultural context of different types of prose.
- Students will develop a sophisticated critical and theoretical vocabulary for analysis of literary prose.
- Students will employ interpretive strategies appropriate to the reading of novels, short stories, essays, and life-writing.
- Students will learn to identify different forms of fiction and non-fiction prose in their historical/cultural context.
