EDTE 2500 - Issues in Global Education


We live in a global community where social, political, economic, and environmental issues affect us all. This course is designed for students to learn inquiry and problem-based approaches to investigate the complexities of global problems, their interdependence, and the effects on human experiences. From this experience, students develop cross-cultural awareness and understanding, critical thinking and informed decision-making, and effective literacy and communication skills needed to be responsible and engaged global citizens.

Learning Outcomes:
  • Students will be able to apply global awareness to integrate current events and issues in their instructional practice.
  • Students will be able to evaluate the affects of issues at local, national, and global levels.
  • Students will be able to differentiate between global education, international studies, and multicultural education.
  • Students will be able to evaluate sources and use evidence to explore and communicate multiple perspectives on complex global issues.
  • Students will be able to relate acceptance of global diversity to the development of cross-cultural communication and understanding.
  • Students will be able to review and critique scholarly writings in the global education literature.
