CARS 2410 - The Global Occult: Ghosts, Demonology, and the Paranormal in World Religions
This course is a broad survey from the perspective of religious studies, of beliefs and practices related to ghosts, demons, and supernatural phenomena throughout history and around the world, including Cambodia, India, Japan, Niger, Thailand, and Trinidad.

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to articulate insights about their own cultural rules and biases regarding the supernatural.
- Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of supernatural beliefs and practices from different cultures in relation to each culture’s history, values, politics, and communication styles.
- Students will be able to ask questions about a variety of cultural attitudes other than their own in a supportive manner, exhibiting empathy in the process.
- Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of different cultural attitudes toward the supernatural in verbal and non-verbal communication and to negotiate a shared understanding based on those differences.
- Students will be able to ask and answer complex questions from multiple perspectives about cultural attitudes other than their own in relation to supernatural beliefs, both religious and otherwise.
- Students will be able to interact with others about intercultural differences, including their own beliefs about the supernatural, in ways that express curiosity and empathy for cultural perspectives other than their own.
