ANTH 5460 - Introduction to Human Osteology
This course focuses on the identification, study, and analysis of the human skeleton. Students learn the micro-anatomy and macro-anatomy of human bone, the development and structure of the human skeleton, and the recognition and analysis of human remains. Through the course, students learn basic laboratory practices of skeletal recognition and analysis as well as new techniques in the field.

Credit Hours: 4

Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to identify and distinguish human and non-human skeletal remains.
- Students will be able to describe the major features of human osteological anatomy.
- Students will be able to interpret characteristics of individuals from skeletal remains and reflect on how that informs our understandings of human populations.
- Students will be able to quantify and analyze anthropological population data such as cemetery data and apply those methods to larger questions in anthropology and beyond.
- Students will be able to develop and test hypotheses.
- Students will be able to produce significant original scholarship in accordance with disciplinary expectations for argumentation, analysis, and scholarly engagement.
- Students will be able to take intellectual risks by sharing tentative ideas, asking questions, engaging in self reflection, and attempting to learn and do new things.
