Special Opportunities
The History Department offers numerous opportunities for students to enhance their educational experience, prepare for future studies and careers, and earn distinction. The Contemporary History Institute and a number of endowed lectureships bring distinguished speakers to campus throughout the year. A significant number of our majors choose pre-law , where they receive advising and assistance for applying to law schools. Many of our majors pursue internships for course credit at the Athens and Ohio Historical Societies, the State Department, the U.S. Holocaust Museum, the National Archives, and elsewhere. The Undergraduate History Conference that takes place each spring allows students the opportunity to present original research to peers, faculty, and administrators. Students with a G.P.A. of 3.5 or higher may elect to earn Departmental Honors by completing a research project, usually a senior thesis written under the direction of a faculty member. Each year the department also awards more than half a dozen fellowships, scholarships, and prizes to undergraduate majors.
