Program Overview
The Latin American Studies Certificate is open to students from any major. The Latin American Studies certificate promotes a greater understanding of Latin America through academic coursework and language acquisition. At Ohio University nearly 25 faculty members from 10 disciplines are dedicated Latin American scholars. The field work they conduct in Ecuador, Mexico, Brazil, Paraguay, Nicaragua, Honduras, and elsewhere in Latin America has produced an impressive list of academic publications. The faculty’s research and experience in the region create an intellectual atmosphere where students are challenged to understand Latin America within a context of regional and global change. The interdisciplinary coursework and language skills of the Latin American Studies Certificate are applicable to a wide variety of professions.

Requirements
Certificate Hours Requirement
The Latin American studies certificate program requires a minimum of 26 hours (Core, Electives, and Language) and maintaining a 2.5 or higher GPA in certificate courses.
Core Requirements
Complete the following course:

Complete 9 hours from at least two course prefixes from the following list. Students who have met the language requirement can take up to 6 hours of 3000/4000-level language courses to satisfy their electives requirements.
