Program Overview
Patton College is committed to offering an outstanding undergraduate curriculum in Human Services. This major is delivered in a flexible online format, requiring no face-to-face meetings. Students interested in this option should apply using the BS 6326 Code. The Human Services major leads to a Bachelor of Applied Human and Consumer Sciences.
Upon completion of the Online Bachelor’s in Human Services, graduates will be able to:
- Evaluate human development, group dynamics, organizational structure, how communities are organized, how national policy is set, and how social systems interact in producing and solving human problems.
- Identify and appraise the major conditions which promote or limit optimal functioning and classes of deviation from desired functioning in major human systems.
- Conduct a competent problem analysis and to select those strategies, services or interventions that are appropriate to helping clients attain a desired outcome. Interventions may include direct assistance, referral, advocacy, or direct counseling.
- Design a plan of action for an identified human problem, implement and evaluate the plan in a systematic way. This requires an understanding of problems analysis, decision-analysis, and design of work plans.
- Foster vitality and consistent behavior in selecting interventions which are congruent with the values of one’s self, clients, the employing organization and the ethical practice in the Human Services Profession.
- Demonstrate competency in verbal and oral communication, interpersonal relationships and other related personal skills, such as self-discipline and time management.
- Appraise, interpret and translate diverse perspectives to effectively communicate with and advocate for a variety of clients.

Work environments may be home, school, or community based.
