Program Overview
The School of Theater offers a minor in theater, designed for those students who are majoring in other fields but who wish, in the course of their formal education, to experience work in the theater.
Admissions Information
Freshman/First-Year Admission
No requirements beyond University admission requirements. Students who wish to declare a minor in theater must consult with their major advisors, in addition to the advisor for minors in theater to pursue the program. Any student declaring a minor in theater must maintain a 2.0 GPA in the minor.
Change of Program Policy

External Transfer Admission

Opportunities Upon Graduation
The theater minor seeks to provide a broad foundation and introduction to the multiple elements and arts that comprise the theatrical experience. Minors may apply their knowledge to support academic study in such possible fields as law, education, sociology, business, management or media arts.
Requirements
Minor Hours Requirement
The theater minor requires a minimum of 22 hours, with at least 2 courses at the 3000 level or above. You must maintain a 2.0 GPA in the minor.
Theater Foundations
Complete one of the following courses:
- THAR 1710 - The Theatrical Experience Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 1720 - Elements of Performance Credit Hours: 3
Acting
Complete one of the following courses:
- THAR 1110 - Fundamentals of Performance I Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 1111 - Fundamentals of Performance II Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 1130 - Acting Fundamentals I Credit Hours: 3
Theater History, Criticism and Literature
Complete one of the following courses:
- THAR 2710 - Theater and Performance History I Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 2711 - Theater and Performance History II Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 4710 - Seminar in Theater History and Drama: Selected Topics Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 4720 - Forms of Drama Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 4730 - American Theater and Drama Credit Hours: 3
Text and Performance
Complete one of the following courses:
- THAR 1730 - Fundamentals of Play Analysis and Playwriting Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 1110 - Fundamentals of Performance I Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 1111 - Fundamentals of Performance II Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 2130 - Acting Fundamentals II Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 2180 - Voice and Speech Training Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 2510 - Introduction to Playwriting Credit Hours: 3
- THAR 3210 - Beginning Directing Credit Hours: 3
Practical Application
Complete two (for a minimum of 4 credit hours) from the following courses:
