Program Overview
The Commercial Photography minor provides students, particularly in related fields, with the foundational knowledge and basic technical skills to create commercial photographs rooted in communication concepts.

This minor has selective admission requirements based on a 2.75 GPA and a portfolio review.

Opportunities Upon Graduation
Completion of the Commercial Photography minor will provide students with skills to enhance their marketability and career paths. In particular, students pursuing careers in strategic communication, social media communications, marketing, graphic design, and corporate communication benefit as an increasing number of these careers require a multitude of communication skills.
Requirements
Minor Hours Requirement
The Visual Communication - Commercial Photography minor requires completion of a minimum of 15 semester hours.
Required Courses
Complete the following courses with a 2.0 (C) or better in each course:
- VICO 1021 - Introduction to Visual Communication Skills: Photography Credit Hours: 3

- VICO 1421 - Introduction to Visual Communication Skills: Photography Credit Hours: 3
- VICO 3221 - Commercial Photography I: Introduction Credit Hours: 3
- VICO 3227 - Commercial Photography II: Fashion and portraiture Credit Hours: 3
- VICO 3228 - Commercial Photography III: Still life and Architecture Credit Hours: 3
Elective Course Requirement
Complete one of the following courses with a grade of 2.0 (C) or better:
- VICO 3400 - Illustration I: Digital Imaging Credit Hours: 3
- VICO 3420 - Visual Communication Topic Seminar II Credit Hours: 1 - 6

(Either the Studio Management topic or Portraiture topic in VICO 3420 will satisfy this requirement)
- VICO 4200 - Video Capture for Commercial Photography Credit Hours: 3
- VICO 4227 - Commercial Photography IV: Business and Studio Practices Credit Hours: 3
