Program Overview
The Adolescent to Young Adult (AYA) program includes 9 majors: Integrated Language Arts, Integrated Mathematics, Integrated Social Studies, Integrated Science, Earth/Space Science, Life Science, and Physical Science - Chemistry, Physical Science - Physics, and Physical Science - Physics and Chemistry. Regardless of the college of the university from which you will graduate, if you wish to be licensed through Ohio University to teach physical science, you must complete the following program and earn passing scores on the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exams and a Teacher Performance Assessment (TPA). This major prepares you for an Ohio four-year Resident Educator teaching license that qualifies you to teach all physical science courses in grades 7-12.
Admissions Information
Students enrolled in teacher education programs (known as teacher candidates) must meet additional requirements to continue in the program (see below for additional details):
- Admission to Teacher Candidacy (typically at the end of the first year)
- Admission to Advanced Standing (typically at the end of the second year)
