Requesting a Third-Party Integration for Canvas (Publisher Content and Add-On Tools)

Description

Publishers and other educational technology providers will often offer integrations with Canvas. Features of these integrations include:

  • Roster sync: Eliminates the need for students to have a second account with the vendor
  • Grade pass back: Allows for grades from the vendor software to be sent to the Canvas gradebook
  • Deep linking: Allows the instructor to place vendor content or links to content directly inside of the Canvas course

A list of available third-party integrations for Canvas can be found in the Using Third-Party Integrations in Canvas (Publisher Content and Add-on Tools) help article .
If you would like to request a new Canvas integration, it’s required to undergo a formal evaluation process which can take 4-6 weeks, depending on how quickly the vendors respond with the required information. Please make sure to plan accordingly.

The Technology Review Process reviews the tool to ensure compliance with laws, policies, and requirements.

The Canvas Integration Request Process reviews the integration for technical and functional compatibility within Canvas. Please note, we cannot begin this process until after the Technology Review is completed, so you must submit both requests.

  • Ask your vendor to provide you with:
    • Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT)
    • Higher Education Cloud Vendor Assessment Tool (HECVAT) for security review
    • Attestation of Compliance (AOC) or Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS)
      • One of these is needed if students will be paying to use the tool
    • Canvas integration instructions
  • Submit both the Technology Review Form and the Canvas Integration Request.
    • These forms are reviewed by different teams for different purposes, if you submit them both at the same time, the teams can each begin their work at the time of submission.

Outcome: You should now be able to submit a Canvas integration request.
