Research assistant at the Kellogg Radiation Laboratory . Measured nuclear-reaction cross sections important for the formation of the elements (nucleosynthesis), with particular emphasis on reactions taking place during the Big Bang.

Developed FORTRAN, C, and Pascal software for space-related applications at a small company. Performed numerical study of light scattering by small (1-100 micron) particles.

Developed data analysis and acquisition software for studying the effects of intense laser radiation on optical coatings at a Navy laboratory.
