What we do and how to get involved -been in Athens for 22 years -began slowly -last year we served 350 kids in Athens! Option 1-being a big means being matched with a kid in the community and spending time with your little each week out in the community Option 2 – school mentoring program; matched one on one – meet little for lunch or recess at school Requirements: need to be 18, BCI, references, interview, and home visit – helps us get an idea of who you are because matches are based on compatibility -Have 100 kids on the waiting list – some have been on there for more than a year! (60 boys, 40 girls) 2. Fundraiser – Bowl for Kids Sake -teams of 5 people -ask for donations in the community during the spring -end of spring come to RollerBowl – May 1st (Friday) -first year that OU will be involved in the Bowl for Kids Sake -Whats in it for you: raises min. $75 get free t-shirt, top 10 fundraisers get prizes worth $200, raise more than $600 and get an iPod Name that Active Game Belts Breaking Bondage Prostitution is a form of human trafficking Human trafficking is: Prostitution Sex slavery Labor trafficking Organ trafficking Pornography Etc Global Scale: 27 million people are in slavery right now In India children cost less than cattle Human Trafficking in Ohio Toledo and Columbus are huge trafficking hubs Check out Human Trafficking in Ohio, 2008 in the library for more info What are we going to do… Belts Breaking Bondage Sew and Sell waste belts donating profits to Human Trafficking organizations March Cause: Transitions Cambodia Movie Screenings – Cargo: a Lost Innocence, Trade, Human Trafficking “World Conscious Wednesday” Your Help Fabric donation Sewing Parties Tabling Raising Awareness Your talents!! beltsbreakingbondage at gmail.com If you are on the list posted, see Tim after chapter.
