PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP! Here are the multiple opportunities to help this amazing organization: May 11: On Monday afternoon Lynn Walroth needs some buddies to go with her to Nelsonville to hang flyers. The time is still flexible I think; maybe even after 5:00 if folks can go after class. Check with Lynn at 513-309-3143 or lw172907 at ohio.edu. This is rain or shine. May 13: On Wednesday Lynn needs helpers to give out free tomato plants in Glouster. She'll be leaving around 12:30. Do you have your own car? If so, we could really use the extra driver! This project will go until around 3:00. This is rain or shine. May 14: On Thursday we are working in a garden for REACH. REACH is the school program for kids who have emotional problems. The garden location is about 2 miles from the Convo. We are going to meet at Seamans Grocery store parking lot on West Union at 12:45. We'll work from 1 - 2. This one will be cancelled if it is raining or has rained a lot the previous couple of days. May 21 - Thursday from 3:30-5:00: We'll be planting gardens with the kids who are invovled in YEAH (Young Entreprenuers at Hope) If you like middle school aged kids, you'll love the YEAH kids. There are opportunities for helping the kids plant, grow, harvest and pack their produce for selling; setting up their farmers market booth on Saturdays; and teaching them about money management. May 22 Friday 3:30-4:30. Sign up kids for the Kids Discovery Garden. We'll be going door to door at the apartment complex and signing up children ages 5-12 for participation. We'll have some treats to hand out to the kids...think of it as reverse trick or treat! Last year Taryn Longberry and I had a group of kids following us from door to door like we were the Pied Pipers! If you want to be adored, then go door to door with us! Let me know if you want to come along. May 25 Monday - 3:30-5:00 We'll be planting the Kids Discovery Garden and eating watermelon! If you like kids ages 5-12 you'll love this activity. This is the garden that our award winning curriculum was written around, and if you are planning to volunteer this summer, you will have a blast with this group! Read this online article written by Aaron Lemley, one of the VISTA's who helped make the Discovery Garden happen last year! http://ourohio.org/index.php?page=garden-attracts-a-young-crop May 29 Friday 3:30-4:30 YEAH garden check-up. We'll be checking on the garden with the YEAH kids, discussing their business plan for the 2009 Farmers Market season, and just generally hanging out with them. May 30 Saturday 9-12. I'll be holding a training for those who want to help with the Hope Kids Discovery Garden this summer. We will be making many of the arts and crafts projects, doing some of the science experiments, recreating some of the cooking lessons, and MUCH more. Aaron Lemley and Taryn Longberry will also be helping. Location tba. If you plan to come, please let me know asap so I can get a head count and chose an adequate location. By the way, this workshop is free to you, but several local agencies might be sending participants who will be paying a fee. Take advantage of this free training for CFI volunteers! In June the summer program kicks off with weekly cooking and gardening classes with the Discovery Garden kids, and the YEAH program starts adding trips to the Farmers Market. It is going to be a jam-packed summer! You all saw this adorable sweet lady speak in chapter and she really needs our help!
