Columbus OH Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council, Statewide Independent Living Council & Governor's Council on People with Disabilities will host Developing Successful Employment Opportunities -A forum for Ohioans with disabilities In April 2009, the U.S. Department of Labor listed the percent of people with disabilities in the labor force at only 22.8% as compared to 70.9% for people without disabilities. Surveys have shown over and over gain that individuals with disabilities want to work. However, the opportunities and services to support people with disabilities I gaining employment are not working. We need to find out why! People with disabilities, their families, friends and people who serve them are invited to attend this open forum and give their: . Experiences about what is preventing them from getting a job, . Suggestions about how to make services work, or . Opinions about what changes could be made to improve Ohio's employment statistics. Now is the time to hear from people with disabilities themselves about how to make positive change. All testimony will be recorded. Following the event, a summary will be prepared, as well as recommendations to improve gainful employment for people with all types of disabilities. This report will be shared with people who can make a difference-service providers, legislators, government officials, employers and others. The forum is free and open to the public. Come prepared to provide oral (not more than five minutes) or written testimony, or to support those who are presenting at the hearing. The day will begin with a keynote speaker and lunch will be provided.
