Research may address any of the four group work types (task, psychoeducational, counseling, or therapy). Amount of Funding: ASGW has allocated $2000 to the Research Committee to support deserving group work research. Distribution will be determined by the Research Committee based on number and quality of proposals submitted. Typically the committee has identified 2-3 recipients. Who May Apply: The funds are available to both professional and student members of ASGW. Student researchers are especially encouraged to apply. Proposal Format: Proposals must adhere to the following: * Proposal must be typed in 12 point font, double spaced, and have one-inch margins. * The proposal may be a maximum of 5 pages including a brief budget. -References may be added in addition to the 5 page limit. * Submitted documents must be in Microsoft Word. No other formats will be accepted. * Submit one blind copy of the proposal and one copy of the proposal with author identification as two separate attachments to Deborah Rubel, ASGW Research Committee Co-Chair at deborah.rubel at oregonstate.edu <mailto: deborah.rubel at oregonstate.edu >. Please include the phrase 'ASGW Research Grant' in your email subject line. All proposals will be included in the final determination of awards if received by February 11, 2011. Recipients will be notified by Feb. 25, 2011. Recommended Proposal Outline: Rationale Methodology Ethical considerations Budget Plan for Dissemination References Evaluation Criteria: Research proposals will be evaluated by a panel of reviewers using the following criteria: a. Qualifications of the Researcher: * The researcher is a regular or student member of ASGW. b. Quality of the Proposed Research: * Proposed topic is within the scope of group work, with the research question centered on the training of group workers or the process/outcome of group work (5 pts. possible). * Proposed topic is relevant to group work as evidenced by a well-organized, succinct literature review, including diversity, multicultural, or social justice implications (5 pts. possible). * The research methodology is well detailed, appropriate for the research question, and follows accepted practice for quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods methods (5 pts. possible). * The proposal addresses ethical standards for research with human subjects (5 pts. possible). c. Financial Need: * Clear, itemized, and research-focused budget (5 pts. possible): The budget for the research project is sound given the methods and scope of the proposed project. Only expenses budgeted for conducting the study will be considered; presentation expenses will not be considered. Other funds being used to support the project must be disclosed in the budget. * Funds may not be used for time compensation, such as GA work, unless you provide the employee with a 1099 Form submitted to the IRS. The budget may include payment for time if the recipient (e.g., transcription company, statistical consultant) accounts for the self-employment or business income and provides a receipt. Receipts must be maintained by the Primary Researcher and made available should ASGW request the records. d. Plan for Dissemination: The proposal must contain a clear, feasible, and appropriate plan for dissemination of research findings (5 pts. possible). As a condition of the acceptance of the grant award, the researcher is required to complete one of the following by June 30th of the year subsequent to receiving your award: * Propose to present the research results as a poster session or educational session at the ACA World Conference, ACES National Conference, or ASGW National Conference; * Submit the manuscript of the research results to a refereed journal for publication consideration. * Acknowledgment of Support and Agreement: The researcher will include an acknowledgment of ASGW's financial support of the project in all reports, presentations, or publications related to the supported project. Deadline(s) for Submission: The deadline for final determination of grant awards is February 11, 2011. Recipients will be notified by Feb. 25, 2011. Recognition of recipients will occur at the ASGW Luncheon during ACA in New Orleans, LA, March 25, 2011.
