POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Associate or Assistant Professor - Counseling

Counseling Program
Department of Counseling and Higher Education

Position: The Counseling Program at UNT seeks an associate or assistant professor with a demonstrated record of strength in research, leadership, and teaching to support the program's scholarly, professional, and academic initiatives. This position will contribute to the program, college, and university's commitment to maintain excellence at the national level. The individual selected will serve a nine-month, tenured or tenure-track appointment beginning fall semester 2011. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Part-time summer teaching is contingent on student demand and funding.

The Program: The Counseling Program offers master's and doctoral degrees in counseling and an undergraduate minor in counseling associate studies. The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred accreditation on the following tracks in the counseling program at UNT: school counseling, college and university counseling, community
counseling and the Ph.D. in counseling. The program recently has discontinued admissions to the community counseling track of study and has implemented a clinical mental health counseling track.

The UNT Counseling Program was the first in the nation to receive the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision's Outstanding Program Award and earned that recognition again in 2000. The Counseling Program faculty also received the 2010 ACES "Publication in Counselor Education and Supervision" Award for their landmark book, The Professional Counselor: Portfolio, Competencies, Performance Guidelines and Assessment (4th edition) - and won the same award for their 2004 3rd edition of that book. Beginning in 1998 when U.S. News and World Report began ranking counseling and counseling psychology programs housed in colleges of education, the UNT Counseling Program ranked among the top 20 programs
nationally for seven consecutive years; for 2008-2009, the program was ranked 15th in the nation and 1st in Texas.
