Faculty Position in Counselor Education

Curry School of Education, University of Virginia


The Curry School of Education, Department of Human Services at the University of Virginia invites applications for a General Faculty position in the area of Counselor Education. The position is pending formal institutional approval.

Qualifications:  Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Counselor Education with appropriate School Counseling credentials and experience. The candidate will have the appropriate background to allow her or him to serve as full-time faculty in a CACREP-accredited program in School Counseling. S/He will have appropriate School Counseling expertise, experience, and skills for a supervisory role position and for leading community outreach efforts.  In addition, the candidate is expected to have an interest in and commitment to: (a) building collaborative partnerships with area schools, community colleges and agencies serving children and youth, (b) efficient and effective School Counseling programs for children and youth, focusing on career, academic, and personal/social development, and (c) evidence-based methods for successful services for children and youth in school settings. This faculty member will collaborate on teaching, supervision, and research efforts as they relate to interdisciplinary and Curry-wide initiatives and evidence-based training.  Candidates must demonstrate an explicit commitment to, and accomplishments in, teaching, research, and/or service that contribute to advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups.
Responsibilities:

 *   Serve as the practicum and internship coordinator for the School Counseling program
 *   Provide supervision and mentoring to students in the Master's Program in School Counseling and contributes efforts to create a strong doctoral program in Counselor Education.
 *   Teach courses in the School Counseling Master's program.
 *   Develop school and career counseling services within the Shelia Johnson Center for Human Services, provide leadership for development of services, and engage in community relationships and outreach efforts.
 *   Develop strong partnerships with local and regional agencies, schools, and community colleges for the purposes of providing counseling services.
 *   Collaborate with units and faculty across the University to strengthen the program in school counseling.
