ASSISTANT-ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN SCHOOL COUNSELING Department of Counseling and School Psychology San Diego State University The Department of Counseling and School Psychology at SDSU is seeking a colleague to join us in the School Counseling Program to contribute to our vision of preparing school counselors leaders, advocates and systems change agents within our diverse schools and communities. Our mission supports the development of skills in the design, development, implementation and evaluation of comprehensive school counseling programs to ensure that every student receives developmentally appropriate competencies in academic, career and personal/social development. SDSU's School Counselors become professional student advocates who promote equity and access to a rigorous education for every student and who work to prevent and remove barriers to learning. Our graduates develop themselves as culturally competent leaders in educational reform and social justice in the schools and communities they serve. Required Qualifications: * Doctorate in counseling, counselor education, or a related educational field with a school emphasis * Established record of research (Associate) or clear research agenda (Assistant) * Expertise in a combination of the areas of teaching responsibilities (see below) * Experience with or commitment to working in field-based, collaborative, ethnically and linguistically diverse school-based programs * A strong framework for service delivery consistent with and ability to teach the ASCA National Model: A Framework for School Counseling Programs. * Experience with or commitment to student and systems advocacy, social justice, and preparing school counselors as leaders. Preferred Attributes: * Successful record of university teaching, supervision of school counseling students * Experience as a school counselor * A record of successful implementation of school counseling programs * Experience with accreditation policies, procedures and agencies * Experience or desire to serve as a collaborative leader in a department setting * An interest in contributing to the development of a doctoral program * Experience with and/or commitment to using technology as a tool for teaching and learning, course development, and instructional delivery * Grant writing skills and/or record of external funding. Major Responsibilities * Teaching in some combination of the following: (a) school counseling skills;(b) career development; (c) school-based intervention and prevention programs (e.g., academic and personal/social);(d) technology; (e) teaching and learning; (f) supervision of school-based practice; (g) multi-cultural and social justice issues in school counseling; (h) the use of data and evidence based-practice in school counseling; (i) quantitative and qualitative research methodology; * Continuous scholarship-research consistent with the mission and vision of the program, department and college * Program service through student recruitment, selection, advisement, and mentoring; collaborate in program governance and development of doctoral program. In addition, the College prefers candidates with experience in some or all of the following areas: working with families and communities, assessment of student learning outcomes and program evaluation, interdisciplinary collaborations, international programs, and partnerships with the field of practice.
