School Counseling Tenure Track Position

West Texas A&M University is a student-centered, learning community dedicated to educating tomorrow's leaders through innovative academic and co-curricular undergraduate and graduate programs. The Department of Education has developed innovative teaching strategies in the areas of travel abroad and cross-discipline collaboration in an effort to promote knowledge acquisition and proficiency in multiculturalism.

The Counselor Education program offers a 60 hour Clinical Mental Health Counseling Track and a 54 hour School Counseling Track. WTAMU's Counselor Education program is seeking accreditation by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and other Related Educational Programs (CACREP) and is located in the West Texas A&M Amarillo Center. Currently, the counseling program has one opening for a tenure track assistant/associate school counseling professor in counselor education.

Qualifications: Applicants must have earned a doctorate in counselor education, counseling psychology, school psychology/counseling or related field (ABD considered with stipulations). Candidates must certified as a school counselor and be licensure eligible in Texas as a Professional Counselor. Preference is given to candidates from CACREP accredited programs that have either recent experience as a public school counselor and/or experience in a counseling agency or private practice.

Counseling Position: Responsibilities include, teaching school counseling related courses (such as Introduction to School Counseling, Theories, Techniques with Children & Adolescents, Play Therapy, Career, Research, Assessment, Practicum and Internship), advising students, and supervising the clinical experiences of students in school and community counseling settings. Additional responsibilities include conducting scholarly research, active participation in professional organizations, and university service.
