Assistant/Associate Professor Position Description: The Department of Rehabilitation Counseling at the Virginia Commonwealth University seeks to fill an Assistant/Associate Professor position to begin August 16, 2011. This is a nine-month, tenure track position which entails research, teaching and service in a CORE-accredited master’s program. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to perform the following duties and responsibilities: (1) conduct research projects; (2) teach master's and doctoral level courses in rehabilitation counseling, both online and on-campus formats; (3) obtain external funding to support research and education; (4) advise and mentor master's and doctoral level students; and, (5) provide service to the university, community, and profession. Our program: The VCU Department of Rehabilitation Counseling was established in 1955. We offer a M.S.in Rehabilitation Counseling and a Ph.D. in Rehabilitation Leadership. Enrollment in both programs is approximately 155 students. The Department is situated in the School of Allied Health Professions on the VCU Medical Center Campus. The 7th ranked program in U.S. News and World Report, we are an integral member of the VCU Center for Rehabilitation Science and Engineering. VCU, an urban university with over 32,000 students, is designated by the Carnegie Foundation to the combined statuses of "Research University, Very High Research Activity" and "Community Engaged Campus." We are located in the historical city of Richmond with proximity to the mountains, ocean, and Washington, DC. Minimum qualifications: Successful applicant will have a doctorate in rehabilitation counseling or related field and be eligible for Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) status. Evidence of capacity for successful scholarship, graduate level teaching, and grant writing is also required as is a commitment to fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment at VCU. Preferred qualifications: Eligibility for Licensed Professional Counselor status in Virginia and expertise in multicultural counseling, case management or chronic illness/disability are desirable. Research Expectations: At the Assistant Professor level, the faculty member will be required to have an established research agenda and a clear potential for external funding, as appropriate, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department. At the Associate Professor level, the faculty member will be required to have a well developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi- disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department.
