COUNSELING AND DEVELOPMENT

Slippery Rock University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Department of Counseling and Development at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2012.   Slippery Rock University is a mid-size public institution approximately 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh, PA. The Department of Counseling and Development offers master's degree programs in School Counseling, Community Counseling, and Student Affairs in Higher Education, each of which is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Department also offers undergraduate coursework that contributes to other University programs and majors.  One such undergraduate course is Human Development and Education, which is the primary teaching responsibility of this faculty position. Department faculty use a constructivist approach that emphasizes reflection with discussion, with which they assist students in integrating theory with practice. Responsibilities:  Responsibilities include teaching multiple large course sections of Human Development and Education each semester (approximately 150 students per section) along with one or more Master's level courses in the Department's graduate curriculum.  Master's level teaching may include (but is not limited to) the following courses: Counseling Theory, Techniques of Counseling, Lifespan Development, Career Counseling and Development, Research and Program Assessment, Social and Cultural Diversity, and Group Counseling. Other responsibilities include scholarly activity, working on Department committees and projects, and coordinating Department procedures and processes.

Minimum Qualifications:  
Doctorate in Counselor Education or closely related field.
Demonstrated clear research agenda.
Demonstrated commitment to the education of diverse populations.  
Successful performance in an on-campus interview, including teaching demonstration.  
Perceived ability to work productively with students and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications: 
Teaching experience at the university level.
Involvement in appropriate professional organizations.
