POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Assistant Professor of Counselor Education
Department of Counseling, Adult and Higher Education
Northern Illinois University

The counseling program at Northern Illinois University seeks a counselor educator to join our faculty as a tenure track assistant professor. Primary responsibilities will include teaching three counseling courses each semester in the areas of clinical mental health in a CACREP-accredited master's and doctoral program. This position serves graduate students in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, School Counseling, and doctoral students in Counselor Education and Supervision. Faculty members are expected to participate in faculty shared governance, curriculum development, recruitment, student advisement, dissertation committees, scholarly research, and professional service activities. Appointment will commence August 16, 2012.
Required Qualifications:

1. Earned doctorate (by time of appointment) in Counselor Education from a CACREP- accredited program
2. Work experience in clinical mental health
3. Experience in clinical supervision
4. Experience using a variety of instructional technology and delivery methods
5. Evidence of commitment to diversity
6. Eligible for counseling licensure in Illinois (i.e., LCPC eligible)
7. Experience teaching graduate level courses
8. Effective oral and written communication skills
9. Involvement in state, regional, or national counseling associations
10. Evidence of scholarly research

Desired Qualifications:

1. Knowledgeable of CACREP-accredited counseling programs
2. Experience teaching graduate level CACREP core areas as well as specialized courses in clinical mental health and career development
3. Successful teaching experience at the graduate level
4. Record of professional and scholarly productivity
