The successful candidate will serve a nine-month, non-tenure track appointment beginning Fall semester 2012. Based on successful annual evaluation, the appointment will be renewed annually with promotion. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and background. Summer employment is contingent on student demand and funding. The Program: The Counseling Program offers masters' and doctoral degrees in counseling and an undergraduate minor in counseling associate studies. The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has conferred accreditation on the following tracks in the counseling program at UNT: school counseling, college and university counseling, community counseling, and the Ph.D. in counseling. The program has discontinued admissions to the community counseling track of study and has implemented a clinical mental health counseling track. The UNT Counseling Program was the first in the nation to receive the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision's Outstanding Program Award and earned that recognition again in 2000. The Counseling Program faculty also received the 2010 ACES "Publication in Counselor Education and Supervision" Award for their landmark book, The Professional Counselor: Portfolio, Competencies, Performance Guidelines and Assessment (4th edition) - and won the same award for their 2004 3rd edition of that book. Beginning in 1998 when U.S. News and World Report began ranking counseling and counseling psychology programs housed in colleges of education, the UNT Counseling Program ranked among the top 20 programs nationally for eight years; for 2012, the program is ranked 12th in the nation and 1st in Texas. Page 2 - Clinical Assistant Professor, Counseling Qualifications: The candidate must hold a doctorate in counseling or counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program by start of employment and must be licensure-eligible as a Professional Counselor in Texas. Preferred qualifications include: (1) a record of effective teaching, supervision, and professional activity, (2) demonstrated strength and flexibility to teach across the CACREP core, (3) preparation to teach in, and demonstrated leadership in, one or more specialty areas such as addictions, career, clinical mental health, or couple and family counseling, or play therapy, and (4) licensure as a Professional Counselor. Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: (1) teaching four [4] courses each semester in CACREP core and counseling specialty areas; (2) providing clinical supervision to master's and doctoral level students; (3) advising/mentoring students; (4) serving on dissertation committees; (5) working with faculty members in the Counseling Program and with those centers, institutes, and clinics affiliated with the Program to maintain and enhance the Program's national stature; and (6) participating actively in professional organizations and university committees.
