Show, by your actions, that you choose peace over war, freedom over oppression, voice over silence, service over self-interest, respect over advantage, cooperation over competition, action over passivity, diversity over uniformity, and justice over all.

Subject: [Ohcounsed] OACES WINTER MEETING CALL FOR PROGRAMS

Given the recent events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, the OACES Winter Meeting will involve presentations and discussions around violent acts, such as shootings, focusing on PRACTICE and/or TEACHING about:

PREDICTION: It is common to assume that there are no concrete ways to "predict" violent acts. But what are some signs that a person is on a path toward violence? What can we teach counseling students about ways to interpret behaviors so that they can intervene before a violent act?

PREVENTION: What are programs that can help teach coping and decision-making skills that will enable clients and students to interact without violence? What are proven programs that improve a sense of community?

POSTVENTION: What can we do after a violent act to help the witnesses, survivors, first responders? Disaster, trauma, and other topics that counselors should know?

CALL FOR PROGRAMS: Please email a proposal for one or more of the above topics, including:

* Title of Presentation and Overview of presentation (200 words)

* Timeframe (choose 60 minutes or 90 minutes)

* Presenter Name(s), Qualifications relevant to the topic, and Email address(es)
