Each is a 9 month, tenure track position beginning August 2012. Position responsibilities include (a) teaching graduate level courses in the master's of arts in counseling program with concentrations in community agency (soon to be phased out for clinical mental health), higher education counseling, marriage and family counseling, and school counseling (b) practicum and internship supervision; (c) advisement and mentoring of graduate students in counseling; (d) program service/course development; (e) research and/or scholarly activities (f) establishing positive relationships with local and regional mental health, school, and university systems. Minimum qualifications include: Doctoral degree in Counseling or Counselor Education. Degree from a CACREP accredited program preferred (ABD will be considered); experience in working with or supervising counselors and/or graduate students; and demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, service, and research and scholarly activities in the field of Counseling. Assistant Professor in our CACREP accredited Community Agency concentration (transitioning to Clinical Mental Health Program). Preferred qualifications include preparation to teach in, and demonstrated leadership in, clinical mental health counseling. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of diversity, skills in addressing needs of diverse groups, and an appreciation for multiculturalism including affectional/sexual orientation, disabilities, gender, and ethnicity. Licensure and experience as a clinical mental health counselor is a positive addition. Assistant or Associate Professor in Counseling. Preferred qualifications include preparation to teach in, and demonstrated leadership in, one or more specialty areas such as college counseling and/or student affairs, addictions, psychological assessment, or play therapy. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of diversity, skills in addressing needs of diverse groups, and appreciation for multiculturalism including affectional/sexual orientation, disabilities, gender, and ethnicity. Experience and licensure as a counselor is preferred. The Counseling Program at ETSU currently offers a Master of Arts degree in four concentrations: school counseling, higher education, community agency/mental health, and marriage and family therapy. The first three concentrations are CACREP accredited and we are in the process of alignment of all of our concentrations with the 2009 CACREP standards. The successful applicants would be joining a current faculty of six who have various experiences and theoretical and scholarship interests. The Masters Degree program admits 35-40 students per year and strives to maintain a faculty-student ratio of 1-10-with practicum and internship ratios at 1-6. East Tennessee State University is nestled in the Appalachian mountains of upper east Tennessee. The university enrolls just over 15,000 students each year. The climate is moderate with four distinct seasons, and the environment is lush and green with opportunities for many outdoor activities.
