The Counselor Education program offers a PhD and two MA tracks, one in School Counseling and a second in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Both tracks prepare students for licensure in their areas. The School Counseling track places special emphasis on urban schools and working with students of color, low income populations, and other diverse student populations. The Counselor Education program has a commitment to diversity at the research, training, and service levels. > > > > QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in counselor education with an emphasis in school counseling; interest in counselor education and school counseling as a component of an integrated services delivery model in urban K-12 education and community settings; demonstrated competence in collegiate teaching and advising graduate students at both the master’s and doctoral level; demonstrated evidence of a strong identity as a professional counselor; demonstrated competence in quantitative and qualitative research and the ability to chair dissertation committees using these research methodologies; strong interest in and familiarity with the National Transforming School Counseling Initiative and ASCA model for school counseling; demonstrated capability to use technology in instruction; and demonstrated knowledge and expertise with NCATE and CACREP. Additional qualifications will depend on the rank of faculty appointment but will minimally include strong record of scholarship including service on editorial boards or editorships of counseling journals. A record of focused, published scholarship and research in school counseling; research on the professional identity of counselors, strong interest in providing in-service training and outreach to urban public schools; ability to advise master’s and doctoral students in school counseling area; capable of serving on and/or supervising doctoral and master’s committees; ability to contribute to strengthening the counselor education program with a focus on school counseling; and, at the associate professor rank, demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding in school counseling and related urban school issues. Position requires successful completion of a background check. Salary is negotiable and commensurate with qualifications. > > RESPONSIBILITIES: The focus of the position is to provide graduate instruction, including master’s and doctoral level courses in counselor education; participate in outreach and service activities associated with professional development in schools and other practitioner-related activities, particularly in urban schools and community settings; pursue a strong program of research in the area of school counseling as a discipline and secure significant extramural funding related to the applicant’s area of research and scholarship, teaching, and service; collaborate in research and scholarship with faculty in similar or other disciplines; advise master’s and doctoral level graduate students with a focus on school counseling; use technology in instruction; provide leadership in service related to school counseling and youth assistance at the local, state, and national levels; collaborate with faculty and students in similar and related disciplines, and in general contribute to a nationally ranked counselor education program. > > Review of applications will begin February 1, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
