The Counselor Education Department at the State University of New York College at Plattsburgh invites applications for 3 full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professors in Counselor Education beginning August 2013.

Located on the shore of Lake Champlain, the College is the intellectual and educational center for the Lake Champlain/Adirondack region of New York State.  The small city character of Plattsburgh and neighboring Burlington, VT provides a quality of life unsurpassed for the whole family. The successful candidate will coordinate curriculum design and practicum and internship placements, and teach specialization courses within the CACREP accredited School Counseling Program.  The Counselor Education Department at Plattsburgh State, including the School Counseling Program, enjoys a reputation within our region of northeastern New York and Vermont for preparing outstanding school counselor graduates. Our faculty is committed to innovative teaching, applied scholarship, and providing strong clinical experiences for our students, both within our departmental Counseling Clinic and in external field sites. Our students regularly attend and/or participate in regional, state, and national conferences.
Responsibilities include: Teach courses such as Professional School Counseling, Leadership and Advocacy in School Counseling, Counseling Children and Adolescents, Internship in School Counseling, Introduction to Family Counseling, Career Development in the Schools, and Psychopathology of Children and Adolescents. Teach additional core courses for all programs (including Student Affairs Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling), such as clinical courses, Cultural Contexts of Counseling, and other courses as fits program needs and individual competencies. Other responsibilities consistent with the role of university faculty include scholarly productivity, student advisement, committee work, and community service.
Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision by date of appointment (or, if doctorate is in a related field, a minimum of one full academic year as a faculty member in a counselor education program completed before July 1, 2013). Familiarity with the ASCA National Standards and Model, certification or licensure as a School Counselor, and three years experience as a school counselor within the last ten years. Teaching and clinical supervision experience at the college level. Evidence of teaching effectiveness and evidence of potential to establish and implement a scholarly research agenda are required.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from a CACREP accredited program, and NCC credential preferred. School counselor identity, teaching experience in a CACREP accredited program in areas that reflect knowledge of the eight CACREP core competencies, and background with career development, assessment, research, and/or program evaluation in schools preferred.
Professional commitment to school counseling and counselor education (e.g., membership in ACA, ASCA, and related organizations), and ability to collaborate with and provide support for schools and school counselors in rural communities strongly desired.

Required Qualifications: Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision (or, if doctorate is in a related field, a minimum of one full academic year as a faculty member in a counselor education program completed before July 1, 2013); experience in clinical supervision; experience in counseling clinical practice; and evidence of potential to establish and implement a scholarly research agenda.
Preferred Qualifications: Doctorate from a CACREP-accredited program; teaching and experience working with diverse cultural groups; professional identity and commitment to counselor education (i.e., participation in ACA and/or its divisions); teaching experience in areas that reflect knowledge of the 8 CACREP core competency areas; New York State license eligible; at least three years of counseling experience within the past ten years; evidence of collaboration with counseling practitioners within the community and professional organizations.
