Smart but Scattered: Executive Dysfunction at Home and at School with Peg Dawson

Join us Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, for Smart but Scattered: Executive Dysfunction at Home and at School hosted by Dr. Peg Dawson.

Peg Dawson, Ed.D., received her doctorate in school/child clinical psychology from the University of Virginia. She worked as a school psychologist for 16 years in Maine and New Hampshire, and, for the past 20 years has worked at the Center for Learning and Attention Disorders in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, where she specialises in the assessment of children and adults with learning and attention disorders.

Along with her colleague, Dr. Richard Guare, she has authored several books, including a book for professionals, Executive Skills in Children and Adolescents: A Practical Guide to Assessment and Intervention (recently revised) as well as a book for parents, Smart but Scattered. She and Dr. Guare have two books in press at the present time, one on executive skills geared to parents of teenagers and a second on coaching (Coaching Students with Executive Skills Deficits). She is a past president of both the National Association of School Psychologists and the International School Psychology Association. She is also the 2006 recipient of NASP’s Lifetime Achievement Award and a 2010 recipient of the International School Psychology Association Distinguished Services Award.

Learning Objectives:
	•	Understand executive skills within the context of brain development
	•	Be familiar with assessment strategies, including interview, rating scales, and standardized tests used to assess executive functioning
	•	Be able to identify how executive skills impact school performance and daily living
	•	Have access to a repertoire of strategies to improve executive skills in students. These will use incentives, as well as a brief introduction to coaching as an intervention strategy to support executive skill development

Continuing Education Credits:

This program has been approved for 5.25 CE’s for Counselors, Social Workers and Psychologist.

Tri-County Mental Health and Counseling Services, Inc. is a provider of CPEs for Counselors and Social Workers for the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Therapists Board. Provider number is RCS070803. This program will provide 5.25 hour of credit for counselors and social workers. (The Ohio Board of Nursing recognizes a CE activity that has been approved by Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist Board). 

NOTE: According to the Ohio Board of Nursing, nurses can claim credit provided by the the Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage & Family Therapist Board. 
Area Health Education Center at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is approved by OPA MCE (Provider #316402113) to offer continuing education credit for psychologists. This program meets the criteria for 5.25 hours of OPA MCE credit.
