Tenure Track Position in School Counseling/Generalist

Starting Date:  August 2013

Rank:  Assistant Professor (tenure track)

Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience
The University:  Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago is a comprehensive, state-supported institution, located in the northwest section of Chicago in a residential neighborhood.  Located eight miles from downtown Chicago and thirty minutes from O'Hare International Airport, the University enrolls approximately 12,000 commuter students.  Northeastern Illinois University is a Hispanic Serving Institution and has been ranked the most diverse university in the Midwest for several years by U.S. News and World Report.
Department:  The Department of Counselor Education, in the College of Education, offers an M.A. CACREP accredited program with emphasis in School Counseling, Community Counseling (soon to be Clinical Mental Health Counseling), and Family Counseling.  The department also offers an M.A. CORE accredited program in Rehabilitation Counseling.  Eight full-time faculty members teach primarily late afternoon and evening classes.
Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate in Counselor Education or a related field and experience in diverse environments is expected.

Recommended Qualifications: A doctorate in Counselor Education from a CACREP approved program, experience in school counseling, a working knowledge of the ASCA National Model, teaching at the graduate level, and the use of instructional technology are highly desirable.

Responsibilities:  The position requires the ability to teach the breadth of an entire M.A. CACREP curriculum.  The person hired for this position will play an important role in providing leadership to the school counseling program both locally and state-wide.  Teaching, research, and service are expectations.  Field supervision and advisement of candidates may be included in faculty duties.
