Successful applicants will be expected to develop an active research agenda in an area germane to health disparities or disability. The University of Illinois has outstanding resources for research. The College of Applied Health Sciences houses the Center on Health, Aging, and Disability, as well as the Division of Rehabilitation and Education Services. The Department has a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff. The University is located in the Champaign-Urbana area, which has an affordable cost of living. The position is a nine-month, tenure track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Kinesiology and Community Health. The position offers the opportunity to work with the Master’s in Public Health (MPH) Program in the Department. The preferred start date is August 16, 2013. A successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in community health, rehabilitation science, rehabilitation/counseling psychology, health psychology or a related field. Background in health disparities or disability is required and experience collaborating with communities on public health initiatives is desirable. Applied research areas of particular interest include but are not limited to health disparities related to preventable chronic diseases (e.g., cancer, obesity, diabetes, heart disease), chronic disease prevention, environmental and social justice issues related to health and disability, disability and employment, and health behavior change. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain an externally funded research agenda and contribute to a multidisciplinary department. Salary is competitive based on a 9-month academic year appointment.
