Greetings,

We would like to invite you to submit proposals for the NCRE Spring 2013 conference in San Francisco April 17-19. We have extended the deadline date for proposals to Sunday, October 14th at 11:59 p.m. PDT.

The theme for this year's conference is: "Family Matters: Including Families in Rehabilitation Research, Education, and Services"

The family is an important system in which our clients (consumers, participants) function. There are two specific tracks for this conference (1) Family Track - that specifically address research findings, theory development, and advocacy that include the family; and (2) Rehabilitation Education and Service Provision Track - that in inclusive of all rehabilitation education training outcomes, evidence-based practices, and new directions for research and education.

Family Tracks

Conducting Research and Interventions with Family Systems
Under this track, proposals are invited that focus on the experiences of persons with disabilities and their families. Presenters are encouraged to share research findings or developing theories on the adjustments that occur in families to adjust to the onset of a disabilities or role changes across the lifespan.

Advocacy for Individuals and Families
Under this track, proposals are invited that describe efforts to develop advocacy programs and consumer networks. In addition, proposals regarding efforts to understand specific issues or concerns expressed by persons with disabilities or their family members with regard to independent living, employment, or quality of life are also encouraged.

The remaining three tracks surround traditional, NCRE conference topics, which focus on education and service provision. (See rehabilitation education and service provision descriptions below.

Rehabilitation Education and Service Provision Track

Rehabilitation Education Training Outcomes in Undergraduate, Graduate, and In-Service Programs
Under this track, proposals are invited that review efforts to improve recruitment efforts, promote the quality of instruction, provide clinical supervision, describe emerging training needs, or result in promising education practices.

Evidence-Based Practice in Rehabilitation Counseling and Education
Under this track, proposals are invited that describe evidence-based practices to improve adjustment to disability, independent living, or employment outcomes for persons with disabilities. Proposals are also encouraged that demonstrate efficacy of specific educational methods (i.e., traditional, hybrid, online coursework) or the effect of a training method on rehabilitation counseling outcomes.

New Directions - New and Promising Practices
Under this track, proposals are invited that review pilot or experimental projects that have the potential to change the current service provision or training designs. Proposals are also encourage that describe developing theoretical frameworks that can direct future research initiatives.

We, the rehabilitation education community, are a family of sorts in that we "are derived from a common stock", as one definition of family explains. Our history unites us. We would like to continue this rich history by facilitating relationship building between educators and students. This will specifically be done by: a) providing mini-sessions that address competence areas that the membership believes are important for advancing our field and b) facilitating the establishment of research collaborations among the NCRE membership, especially collaborations that include students.
