Dear Colleagues,

As students are registering for Spring Semester, we have some courses that may interest them. Please distribute this message to interested department faculty and graduate students.

ELIP class content applies to both domestic and international graduate students in all disciplines.

Find more information on Graduate Writing and Reading courses here: http://linguistics.ohio.edu/ELIP/?page_id=158.
More information about Speaking courses is here: http://linguistics.ohio.edu/ELIP/?page_id=307
Writing for Research, ELIP 5160, is useful for students writing a research proposal, a research project, or a thesis/dissertation. Students can work on their papers in whatever stage of the process they are in-literature review, methodology, discussion, etc. It's offered on Wednesdays from 3:05-4:55pm, class #3815 meeting in Gordy 203. ELIP also has a section available for Science students, on Tuesdays 5:15-7:05pm, class #3814 in Gordy 305.

Similarly, Oral Communication for the Researcher & Presenter (ELIP 5320) is for domestic and international students who will defend their proposals, theses, or dissertations. Students practice giving presentations, asking and answering questions, discussing, and interacting with professors and peers. Speaking skills and pronunciation are also covered. It's offered on Tuesdays from 3:05-4:55pm, class #3824 in Gordy 315.

The Academic Writing in Graduate Studies class, ELIP 5140, is useful for students who would like to develop their academic writing style in terms of integrating and citing sources, academic word choice, idea development/clarity, and organization. It meets Wednesdays from 4:10-6:00pm, class #3812 in Gordy 305.

We're offering an online section of Academic Writing in Graduate Studies ELIP 5140 (class # 3813) as well. Please email Dr. Dawn Bikowski ( bikowski at ohio.edu
<mailto: bikowski at ohio.edu
>) with questions.

Graduate Reading and Writing (ELIP 5120) meets on Mondays from 3:05-4:55pm, class #3811 in Gordy 209. It is designed for international students and focuses on grammar in writing/syntax, as well as idea development and source use.

Critical Reading and Analysis (ELIP 5100) is offered on Thursdays from 5:15-7:05pm, class #3820 in Gordy 305, and allows both domestic and international graduate students to better manage their reading load in terms of reading speed and using and synthesizing information.

Oral Communication in Graduate Studies (ELIP 5300) is specifically for international graduate students, allowing them to develop their presentation skills and also to work on pronunciation, small talk/networking, and leading and participating in discussions. It's offered on Thursdays from 3:05-4:55pm, class #3823 in Gordy 209.

ELIP assignments are discipline specific and we provide a significant amount of one-on-one attention. If you would like more detailed information, see attachment or contact me personally.

Graduate students can also visit the ELIP Graduate Writing Center in Gordy Hall 009. Walk-in hours are 6:00-9:00pm Tues - Thurs. For more information: http://linguistics.ohio.edu/ELIP/?page_id=168
