Fixed-term Faculty Positions

The Department of Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education is seeking to hire three fixed-term positions at the Assistant Professor rank within the Rehabilitation and Human Services (RHS) Program for the 2015-16 academic year (Fall and Spring Semesters).

Two of the positions are for a one-year appointment and the third is for a two-year appointment.

Each of these positions is a new position created to address the increasing residential instruction enrollment of the undergraduate RHS program and, in addition, to support the development of a new on-line distance education RHS minor through Penn State's World Campus. Fixed Term Positions:  Job Number #57645
Two fixed-term 36-week appointment positions, each of which is for one year. The primary responsibility for this position is teaching undergraduate courses in the Rehabilitation and Human Services residential instruction program. Teaching load will include four residential instruction and two distance instruction courses using teaching materials already developed by program faculty. There may be an opportunity for additional teaching opportunities for the summer semester.

The required qualifications include:

  *   An earned doctoral degree or ABD in Rehabilitation Counselor Education or related program area (rehabilitation administration, rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation psychology) or closely related field (counselor education, psychology);
  *   Evidence of experience and commitment to excellence in higher education teaching including use of current technology, commensurate with experience; and evidence of a commitment to working collegially with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Fixed Term Position:  Job Number 57663
This fixed-term 48-week appointment position is for two years with excellent prospects for continuing re-appointment and potential for supplemental teaching assignments.

This position requires the person to:
(1) Teach undergraduate courses as part of the Rehabilitation and Human Services (RHS) minor through the World Campus as well as teach courses as part of the residential program at the main campus;
(2) Author, update, and revise online courses for the RHS minor program as needed;
(3) Advise incoming World Campus students in the RHS minor;
(4) Coordinate faculty course coverage for all courses in the RHS online minor program and;
(5) Serve as onsite faculty liaison to the World Campus for purposes of program planning, management and marketing to recruit new students.

Online courses for undergraduate students in the distance program will increase incrementally over time until a full teaching load of six courses (18 credits) per year is reached (3 per semester).

Applicants should have proven leadership skills and experience with online/distance education. Salary is competitive and full University benefits apply.

Required qualifications:

  *   Earned doctorate or ABD in Rehabilitation Administration, Counseling or Education or related disciplines (Counselor Education, Human Services, Psychology)
  *   Minimum 2 years experience working with individuals with disabilities. Experience with distance and blended models of instruction and, in particular videoconferencing technology.
  *   Evidence of a commitment to excellence in teaching including use of current technology, commensurate with experience.
  *   Evidence of a commitment to working collegially and with individuals from diverse backgrounds and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.
