Deadline Extended APPLICATION DEADLINE – March 1, 2019

The Institute is a dynamic introduction to counseling in Botswana, as well as a 3-week adventure in a beautiful African country with much to see and do! It is an opportunity to gain an international perspective on counseling and education while enjoying camaraderie with colleagues and students. Counselor educators, staff, teachers, administrators, education professionals and students from other universities are welcome to participate!

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The program goal is to broaden participants' awareness of social diversity, counseling, education, and cultural issues in a non-American setting and to share a travel abroad adventure with friendly colleagues in a semi-structured environment. This is a chance for current and future counselors and education professionals to learn about counseling, education, and human services work in Botswana, while enjoying day trips to cultural and historic sites. Air travel to and from Botswana is not included in the program fee; however, lodging and classroom accommodations at the University of Botswana are included in program fees. For further information on sign up, the costs, and the amenities that go with the trip (e.g., tours, some meals, arts events), contact the Office of Global Opportunities at Ohio University.

Participants will reflect on cultural parallels and differences in America and Botswana and examine counseling and education approaches. All excursions are educational in nature and include, the Botswana National Museum, local craft area, Gaborone Game Reserve, Main Mall, Livingstone, Thamaga pottery,Bahurutshe and Manyana rock paintings, Otse Gauge and manyelanong. Participants will also complete NBCC International (NBCC-I) Mental Health Facilitator (MHF) program. Please share this opportunity with students of counseling or other majors as the course will meet the requirements for many cross-cultural courses at the undergraduate and graduate level. Part of which will consist of an online dimension that will occur in Botswana and through the summer.

PRESENTATION OPPORTUNITY
Educators in counseling or education, licensed counselors (master’s or doctoral level), and education professionals, (master’s practitioners or doctoral students), teachers, staff, administrators who wish to make an international presentation on cultural issues at the Botswana Institute are asked to submit a brief proposal outline detailing the topic to Dr. Mona Robinson at robinsoh at ohio.edu
