Position Information Job Title Assistant/Associate Professor Department Counseling and Human Services - 23500 Pay Grade 1 Job Category Faculty Job Summary The Department of Counseling and Human Services at East Tennessee State University seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor for a 9 month tenure track position beginning August 2020. Position responsibilities include: • teaching graduate level courses in the Clinical Mental Health and School Counseling Concentrations • practicum and internship supervision • advisement and mentoring graduate students in School Counseling • program/course development • establishing positive relationships with local and regional clinical mental health agencies • professional counselors, and school systems • research and scholarly activities • appropriate service to the department, college, university, community, and the profession of Counseling. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities • An ability and interest in teaching concentration courses in school counseling; • Knowledge of CACREP content areas and the ability to teach courses within their standards; • Knowledge of CACREP standards and student learning objectives and the ability to conduct appropriate assessments within the program’s course structure; • Ability to work within the community to establish clinical and/or school contacts, establish and maintain practicum and internship sites and provide supervision training for community-based supervisors as needed; • Ability to work with part-time and adjunct faculty to promote faculty development for these colleagues and to ensure quality instruction for Master’s level students; • Ability to engage in constructive problem-solving and to make sound decisions; • Ability to promote diversity of though and inclusion among students, within the faculty and staff, and in the curriculum. Required Qualifications • Ph.D., or Ed.D. in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program and institution (ABD’s will be considered, but degree must be in hand by December 31, 2020). Or, have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as full-time faculty member in a Counselor Education program • Professional identity counselor educator with a specialization in school counseling • Evidence of teaching experience and skill, including the ability to articulate a pragmatic teaching philosophy • Experience teaching and supervising school counselors and clinical mental health counselors • Qualitative and/or quantitative research skills and a research agenda for the next five years with a demonstrated potential for excellence • A commitment to program, college, university, community and professional service Preferred Qualifications • Professional experience as a K-12 School Counselor • Licensed Tennessee School Counselor and/or Eligible to become licensed as a School Counselor in Tennessee • Professional memberships in school counseling and other professional organizations • An ability and interest in play therapy courses • Experience working with students in instruction/online learning, mentoring, and training or research activities • Evidence that the successful candidate can address race, ethnicity, culture, class, gender, gender identity, religion, sexual/affectional orientation, physical ability, and age in syllabi, teaching, supervision, research and professional practice.
