Hello all. Please see information to participate in research From: Keith Huffman < kmh0160 at auburn.edu > Date: Friday, April 28, 2023 at 10:37 AM Use caution with links and attachments. Greetings, I am reaching out to you on behalf of a current research study, Evaluating Empathy and Stigma Toward People with Mental Illness Who Are Incarcerated (IRB #23-142 EX 2303). This study will be conducted by Keith Huffman, a doctoral student in Counselor Education at Auburn University, while under the supervision of Dr. Jinhee Park at Auburn University. I am asking for your assistance in distributing information regarding this study and the research survey link to your students who might meet eligibility criteria: (1) graduate students enrolled in your program or your course, and (2) ages 18 years or older. The first 100 participants in this study will receive a $10 Amazon e-gift card! The purpose of this study is to examine news media effects on counseling students’ empathy and stigma toward people with mental illness who are incarcerated. The study will be conducted online via Qualtrics. It is estimated that approximately 30 minutes or less will be needed to review a single news media report and complete the subsequent research survey. Participation is completely voluntary, and participants’ responses will be kept completely confidential. There will be no costs for participating in this study. Additionally, there be no direct or immediate benefits for participants. However, participation in this research study may provide valuable information of the possible impact of media report on attitudes toward people with mental illness who are incarcerated. This information will contribute to the counseling profession literature and provide insight for counselor educators and supervisors to consider while preparing future counseling professionals. Finally, there will be no more than minimum risks posed in the questions being asked in the current study. Please forward this email to your students so that those who are interested may participate in this study by following the information link below: Qualtrics Link: https://auburn.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8qcX4kMqguer3AW Please see the attached information letter, which provides detailed information about the purpose of this study, the voluntary nature of participation, confidentiality, incentives, and potential harm. This information will also be presented when students follow the information link. Please let me know if you have any question about this research. Furthermore, I would really appreciate your support in this endeavor!
