Informed counselors can assist their clients in overcoming problems and developing their potential through the use of creativity and through the employment of verbal and nonverbal art forms. Thus, it is important that counselors know ways to be creative and how the expressive arts are used in the helping process. This type of background information enables them to be more dynamic, versatile, and effective by making informed decisions concerning prevention and treatment interventions. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal> This one-day conference will explore how creativity can be fostered in counseling, specifically by using the SCAMPER model (substitute, combine, adapt, modify, put to other uses, eliminate, and rearrange) as developed by Robert Eberle. It also will look at ways the creative arts can be and are being used in counseling. Theoretical, practical, and research components of this workshop will be presented in an experiential and engaging manner. Participants understanding of the potential and power of creativity and of different art forms that may be applied in the counseling process will be highlighted.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>Course Objectives</span></b><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpFirst style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:9.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-9.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.5pt;font-family:Wingdings'>§</span><span style='font-size:7.0pt'> </span>Give participants a rationale for using creativity and the creative arts in counseling.<span style='font-family:Wingdings'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:9.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-9.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.5pt;font-family:Wingdings'>§</span><span style='font-size:7.0pt'> </span>Demonstrate research-based counseling techniques in the creative arts.<span style='font-family:Wingdings'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpMiddle style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:9.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-9.0pt'><span style='font-size:10.5pt;font-family:Wingdings'>§</span><span style='font-size:7.0pt'> </span>Demonstrate to participants how the following modalities can be used in counseling throughout the life span:<span style='font-family:Wingdings'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'><span style='font-size:10.5pt'> </span><o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'>visual arts<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'>music <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'>literature and writing <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'>movement and dance <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'>drama , play, and humor <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraph style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:.5in;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-.25in'>creativity and the creative arts combined with counseling activities.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoListParagraphCxSpLast style='mso-margin-top-alt:0in;margin-right:0in;margin-bottom:0in;margin-left:9.0pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;text-indent:-9.0pt'> <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal> <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal><b><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'>The Presenter</span></b><span style='font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"'> </span><span style='font-size:11.5pt;font-family:"Garamond","serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p><p class=MsoNormal style='text-align:justify'><strong>Dr. Samuel T.
