Hi Folks, In Georgia the biggest culprits attacking terrapin nest are raccoons and crows. With crows being the greatest threat. These very smart and interesting birds learn where terrapins are nesting in numbers and await and follow the females to their nest site. In such cases, they leave no eggs uneaten. Our Skidaway hatchery volunteers are experts at running interference and saving nest. Wishing a productive nesting season to all, Crawfish Captain John "Crawfish" Crawford Senior Naturalist, Marine Educator Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant 30 Ocean Science Circle Savannah, GA 31411 p: 912.598.2364 email: crawfish at uga.edu gacoast.uga.edu Science serving Georgia's coast ________________________________ From: Dtwg < dtwg-bounces at listserv.ohio.edu > on behalf of O'Connor,Lawrence Richard < roc1 at ufl.edu > Sent: Monday, May 6, 2019 5:33:30 PM To: ' dtwg at listserv.ohio.edu ' Subject: [Dtwg] dogs There is discussion about prohibiting dogs on bird and terrapin nesting beaches in a local county. We have seen both terrapin and dog tracks on this beach but have not found any dead terps on the beach or in the marsh. Terrapins seem to know how to avoid Has anyone else had problems with dog encounters on your beaches?
